As deadline looms, Democrats scramble to avert US government shutdown

The Senate could vote on Wednesday or Thursday on a bipartisan resolution to fund federal operations through early December, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said. "With so many critical issues to address, the last thing the American people need right now is a government shutdown. This will prevent one from happening," Schumer said.
